The biggest overhaul of fire safety legislation has recently come into place and is affecting hundreds of non-domestic premises in England and Wales. The changes have been enforced by the government to increase the safety of individuals should a fire occur. The new legislation means those responsible of any premises where ‘people gather or go to work’ are held accountable for managing the fire risk. As a result, thousands of properties have to undergo extensive refurbishment in order to meet the new standards. The new legislation also requires the correct fire safety signage and equipment to be in place.
