What a year for XTC Discos - Sheffield
posted on 22-Feb-2008
One year on since XTC Sheffield was formed and Nigel Freeman the first franchisee in the XTC ‘family’ reports a whirlwind year of success and achievement !
Having undertaken 3 months training with the DJ’s at XTC’s home base of Nottingham in 2006 and then undertaking DJ ing assignments on his own in Nottingham for XTC for the remainder of 2006, Nigel was ready to launch in Sheffield in January 2007.
So the equipment and van had been purchased and it was all systems go to market and advertise XTC in Sheffield. Yellow Pages, UK Disco and a mass marketing campaign administered by Head Office saw several enquiries and bookings for private work however crucially within the first month one large banquetting venue had called to ask for a meeting to discuss supplying DJ’s and Discos. From this enquiry thirty bookings had been successfully undertaken at that venue by the beginning of September.
The next crucial landmark was a call from Sheffield’s most prestigious Banquetting and Functions restaurant in June to request a meeting again to supply DJ’s at that venue. A successful meeting achieved, by the end of the year XTC had undertaken sixty plus successful bookings at that venue. It was this June enquiry and the success in securing that volume of work that meant that Nigel could give up his banking day job and now undertake the XTC business full time. The game plan to own and manage a business that means you can be based at home, have a lot of free time in the week and entertain people on some evenings had been achieved!!
Local advertising also successfully recruited two DJ’s which along with XTC Nottm DJ’s also based locally meant that Sheffield now had a team of six DJ’s !!
A quirk of fate saw Nigel resign from his Banking day job on the morning of 25 June and then in the afternoon…………his storage area was flooded in the ‘Great Sheffield Flood’’!!.......Was this a sign???...............A great team effort including support from Head Office in Nottingham cleaned things up quickly, replaced and repaired damaged equipment and with insurance cover and a local authority emergency grant thankfully no financial loss was experienced.
Aswell as the regular dates at the two banquetting venues in Sheffield, July & August was very busy with private bookings mainly weddings of course but there were also Prom nights, birthdays, quiz nights and the odd karaoke!!
Another marketing campaign in September successfully obtained residencies at another hotel and a large & busy bar in the city centre. By the end of September XTC Sheffield had successfully undertaken over 80 bookings……..more than anyone could have imagined!!!!
October saw the largest event XTC (including XTC Nottingham) had ever undertaken. Sheffield was booked to provide the Megashow for an 18th birthday party in a large marquee and then the add on’s flowed………casino tables, chocolate fountain, large video screen, podium stages for dances, outside lighting……….The event was awesome and virtually turned the marquees into a nightclub.
In November an enquiry led to a quiz night being added to the weekly diary of bookings and then at the end of November the Christmas party season commenced…….
Over sixty successful bookings were undertaken in the Christmas and New Year season……..on several occasions Nigel would DJ at a party in the afternoon and then go on to another party in the evening……..Yes it was hectic and busy but totally rewarding both financially and enjoyable!!
So as the first year closes XTC Sheffield is a real success story ……….
The business plan achieved……expected income exceeded by 5%
A team of six DJ’s…………………..Residencies at five venues……….and more being targeted in another marketing campaign
